The Energetic Forces

In Yang-22 the use of force goes hand-in-hand with the appropriate technique. This is because a technique lacking in internal strength is just a nice looking technique.

The use of internal strength in a technique is not always obvious. For example, Peng (Ward-Off) is frequently characterized and applied as a forward, uplifting motion of the hand. However, this is misleading.

As it is said in our style, the intent comes first. This means that the movements of a technique begins when you visualize the process.

Below are two examples of energetic forces :-

1) Peng (Ward-Off) – imagine the energy in your body flowing into the ground, like descending cold air. The energy then splits into two and diffuses upwards on the left side and right side.

Both rising energies then lift your hands which are grasping a Chi Sphere upwards.

2) Lu (Rollback) – the energy of Lu goes through 3 stages namely 1st Lu, 2nd Lu and 3rd Lu. The movement of Lu is coordinated with the 3 energetic stages.

We do this by imagining that the tip of a sword is coming towards the centre of your chest. As you “see” the sword coming at you, your chest and back open up. Your wrists shape dissipates. This is the 1st Lu.

In the 2nd Lu, the sword tip nears your chest. Your elbows dissipates. Your back continues to open. This is the 2nd Lu.

Finally, the sword tip reaches your chest, pierces it and goes through your back. This is the 3rd Lu stage where at the instance you neutralize using Lu is also the instance that you return the opponent’s attacking energy to him, making him feel as if he is pushing himself off balance.
