Thinking Differently

Here’s something I read last week from a book entitlted Wired to Create : Unraveling the Mysteries of the Creative Mind by Carolyn Gregoire and Scott Barry Kaufman.

The quotation appears on page 164, Chapter 10 Thinking Differently. The authors cited a 16th century Italian philosopher, astronomer and mathematician Giordano Bruno who said :-

It is proof of a base and low mind for one to wish to think with the masses or majority, merely because the majority is the majority. Truth does not change because it is, or is not, believed by a majority of the people.

I can understand why many people agree with the majority because sometimes one is lulled into thinking that surely the majority cannot be wrong. Or perhaps one is simply too lazy to think and analyze the issues involved.

But if you wish to Master Tai Chi Today I would urge you not to accept what the majority says readily. Instead, question and investigate widely and deeply. You may be surprised at what you discover.
