A Reminiscence of Ipoh

IpohThe above is a picture of Master Leong who taught me Grandmaster Nip Chee Fei’s version of Yang style Tai Chi, Tai Ruler and Pok Khek.

This photo was taken in the late 80s in Taman Seenivasagam (aka Taman DR) in Ipoh by my friend who organized the photo taking of the long form.

Whenever I am in Ipoh and pass by Taman DR I would think back to the happy times spent learning from Master Leong and the delicious breakfast that would inevitably follow after practice. Until then I had never understood what long range styles were about but Master Leong introduced me to a whole new way of doing things.

Well, its been more than a year since I was last in Ipoh and if everything goes according to plan I will be able to go back for a few days next week for makan, makan and more makan, and of course meeting old kakis.

If anyone is interested to meet up, get a different perspective on what Yang style Tai Chi is about particularly the intention approach of Grandmaster Wei Shuren or take lessons let me know early. Master Tai Chi Today is not something impossible. Its just knowing what to practice, how to practice, how to do quality check to ensure compliance to the principles of the Tai Chi Classics, etc and you are on your way.
