Student Notes – Traceability

After writing the post on Student Notes – Progress I turned back to writing A Tale of Two Elbows Part 3.

I wanted to use a picture of Grandmaster Wei to illustrate a point about the 5 bows. However, I also noticed how Gregory’s Single Whip posture has converged to resemble that of Grandmaster Wei’s; take a look for yourself :-

This is what I mean about traceability in that if an art you are learning has true rather than verbal traceability through proper transmission the DNA of practitioners down the line will bear the outstanding flavor and characteristics of the master practitioners before.

To reiterate a point I have made before if you want to Master Tai Chi Today you have to really get the basic principles correct. Then you will be able to meet the minimum standard of performance that defines the style.
